KwaZulu-Natal pupils fielded in SA U20 squad

2011-04-12 00:00

THE South African U20 squad that recently played three Tests against Argentina had four payers that had been at school in KwaZulu-Natal.

Two came from Glenwood, the top KZN team over the past two years, one from Hilton and one from Maritzburg College.

Jon-Roy Jenkins and Francois Kleinhans were both members of the Glenwood first XV in 2008 and 2009 ,the infamous team that lost more games than they won, and both played for the KZN team at Craven Week in those years.

Kleinhans, a loose forward, was Glenwood’s top try scorer in 2009. Jenkins was a strong-running prop forward. The latter is now with the Leopards and Kleinhans is at the Sharks Academy playing for the junior Sharks.

Nicholas Schonert, a Maritzburg College old boy was in their first XV in 2008 and 2009. He represented the KZN team at Craven Week in 2008 and 2009, as a strong scrummager in the front row. Schonert is also at the Sharks Academy and playing for the junior Sharks.

The last KZN member of the junior Boks is Emil Schwarz from Hilton, where he played for three years in their first team, mainly on the wing. He matriculated at the end of 2010 and played for KZN at Craven Week in 2009 and 2010. In 2009, he was selected for the SA U19 team and played in Tests against Namibia and France. He is at the Sharks Academy and plays for the junior Sharks.
