Kwanalu lauds good police work

THE KwaZulu-Natal Agricultural Union (Kwanalu) has commended sterling police work after another suspect linked to last week’s Ixopo farm murder was arrested.

Kwanalu security desk spokesperson Koos Marais was commenting on the second arrest of a suspect linked to the murder of 61-year-old Eugene van der Merwe.

Van der Merwe and his teenaged son were the victims of an alleged farm attack at Sunnyside last Wednesday.

The first suspect was arrested on Thursday while the second was arrested on Friday. According to police, one of the arrested men is a former employee.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said Thulani Chemane (36) and Busani Shoba (27) appeared in Ixopo Magistrate’s Court yesterday and were remanded in custody until their next court appearance on October 21.

Marais said they were hoping for a speedy trial. “We appreciate excellent police work and their committed dedicated service,” said Marais.
