Lancashire’s on-fire Dorasamy fails to prevent Standard victory

2012-12-05 00:00

AN excellent all-round display by former KZN Inland cricketer Sashen Dorasamy, the province’s most capped player, was not enough to prevent the strong Standard line-up from beating the Woodlands-based Lancashire first XI by 37 runs in the only KFC Premier T20 match that was possible at the weekend.

The wet weather continues to plague KZN Inland club and provincial cricketers, even when the rain has stopped, as the consequent wet outfields make play impossible.

Dorasamy took two for 32 and then hit 43, but the match-winner was Standard’s Ryan Stanbury, whose unbeaten 26 and four for seven in only two overs ensured that the Wanderers Club in Scottsville emerged as victors.

There are two intriguing KZN Inland Premier 50 matches on Sunday: Zingari at home to Midlands at Collegians Club, and Standard hosting Lancashire across the road at Wanderers, while the Young Natalians-Varsity match has been postponed due to the university vacation.

In KZN Coastal Premier 50 action in Durban, second-placed Chatsworth Sporting had a scare against bottom-of-the-log African Warriors, scraping home by only two wickets.

Top-ranked Crusaders, too, felt the pressure before emerging three-wicket victors over fifth-placed Uthungulu.

Topham, fourth in the league, outplayed Chatsworth United, their emphatic win built around Darren Govender and Shaun Rampersad’s respective batting and bowling efforts.

In the other matches, third-ranked DHS Rhythm were upset by second-last Pinetown, while the once-dominant Berea Rovers, only seventh on the 10-team log, enjoyed a defeat of Delta.

Just one KZN Coastal Premier 50 match is scheduled for Sunday, as the teams go into the festive season break.
