Lance Klusener’s Dolphins contract renewed

2014-06-13 00:00

IT’S been a profitable few weeks for Lance Klusener, first being named Coach of the Year at the CSA awards and yesterday having his contract renewed as head coach of the Dolphins.

The union announced that Klusener would occupy the position of head coach for the next two seasons, with an option for a third.

This comes as rich reward for Klusener, who managed to return some long-forgotten silverware to the trophy cabinet at Kingsmead when, with the astute leadership of Morné van Wyk who joined the franchise as captain last season from the Knights, he guided the team to glory in the domestic T20 Ram Slam competition.

In the other competitions, the Dolphins were competitive, with the weather having the final say in some four-day and One-Day matches, preventing the side from having a go at claiming full points.

When they were on the park, the mix of youth and experience combined well, the team recording some morale-boosting wins that bode well for the coming season.

Announcing Klusener’s re-appointment, Jesse Chellan, CEO of KZNCU, said: “I am pleased to confirm Klusener’s re-appointment as head coach. The continuity of the process that has been put in place over the past four years is key to our success going forward.

“Securing Lance and the rest of the coaching staff is essential to this as they have been exceptional in growing our team. I look forward to the Dolphins dominating the domestic scene in the next few years.”

KZNCU president Faeez Jaffer echoed Chellan’s comments, saying the coming season was going to be tough but he was confident the side would perform under Klusener’s guidance.

Currently, Klusener and his men are back in training with their winter programme, preparing for the Champions League in India in September, the Dolphins’ reward for their T20 title.
