Last chance to have some show fun

2008-05-30 00:00

The Royal Agricultural Show (RAS) ends this weekend and a jam-packed line-up of entertainment is planned, including two popular music concerts.

Attendance figures counted yesterday since the start of the show last Friday are 87 000, 2 000 down from last year.

“We had slightly fewer schoolchildren than in previous years …” said RAS general manager Terry Strachan.

The last performance by American Dave “The Human Cannonball” Smith will be at 1.30 pm today and is terrifyingly impressive if you haven’t seen it before.

The dog trials, championships and displays of agility will entertain audiences in the main arena this afternoon, followed by the Lotus FM Bhangra concert at 6 pm.

The concert is described as a Fusion Bhangra featuring performances by DJs, dancers, singers, all finalists in the 2007 Lotus FM lyric writing competition and a host of other top class performances. Entry to the show today costs R35 for adults and R18 for pensioners and children.

The show will close on a high note tomorrow afternoon with the Ukhozi FM concert starting at 10 am and keeping audiences in the groove till late into the afternoon. Entry costs R40 for everybody.

This is the weekend to grab bargain prices on merchandise being sold at various stalls, catch that “final” ride at the fun fair, enjoy a spicy, sweet or savoury delight from one of the food stalls, or simply just get your last bit of carnival fun until next year’s RAS.

Tonight (6 pm): Lotus FM Bhangra bash.

Tomorrow (10 am): Ukhozi FM,
