Launch: Cell C activates its ‘4GS’ network

2010-10-07 00:00

CELL C CEO Lars P. Reichelt yesterday pressed a large red button symbolising the launch of Cell C’s “4GS” network in Durban and Pietermaritzburg.

With customers paying as little as R83 for two gigabytes per month for high-speed Internet access, Cell C said its new network is the most advanced on the African continent.

“Our 4GS network today covers around 98% and 93% of the city population of Durban and Pietermaritzburg respectively, and by January 2011 will cover 99% of both cities and their surrounding areas,” said Reichelt.

“As South Africa’s third largest city and the largest port on the eastern African seaboard, the start of our network in Durban is a boon for business and private customers alike.

Pietermaritzburg, Reichelt said, “is now also able to benefit from our new network, which keeps more rands in the pockets of consumers and creates a myriad of economic opportunities through very fast and very affordable access to the Internet”.
