Lean Congress this month

2011-10-11 00:00

THE upcoming KZN Lean Congress will serve as a practical guide on how to implement this critical element of business management, transforming local businesses into more efficient organisations.

The CEO of the Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business (PCB), Melanie Veness, told The Witness.

The keynote speaker is productivity guru Michael Ballé, the author of the book The Lean Manager.

Ballé and a number of other industry leaders will focus on Lean methodology and continuous improvement.

“The congress is not only about applying Lean to make yourself more efficient. You can also use Lean to secure more business deals,” Veness said.

She said that examples like the just in-time manufacturing strategy is known to have lowered costs and risks — ultimately retaining manufacturing capabilities in South Africa.

However, the Lean approach is not confined to manufacturing. It is applicable to a wide range of areas, including small businesses, parastatals and commerce.

“The idea is to bring it all together to empower businesses to make changes.”

The event will take place between October 18 and October 20 at the Royal Showgrounds.
