‘Legends in the making’: Zuluboy to rock Durban tomorrow on nationwide show

2010-12-21 00:00

DURBAN is gearing up for the Hansa Pilsner Legends in the Making Tour which promises to bring hit-making South African artists to rock Cube Events tomorrow night.

Afro-pop music band Malaika will be joined by hip hop act Zuluboy and emerging talent Freedom in a night filled with song and dance, according to the event spokesperson Tshepo Tsotsotso.

He said legendary South African house music genius DJ Tira and kwela group Kwela Tebza officially kick-started the concert last Friday on the East Rand with performances at Chillas Pub and then at the Change Room in Pimville, Soweto, on Saturday.

Tsotsotso said the Hansa Legends Tour comprises 15 nationwide concerts, with DJ DMOS and Afro-soul sensation Ntando among the eight artists billed.

He said the tour was launched last month at an exclusive venue in Johannesburg where it was revealed that skateboarder musician Pharrell Williams and his band N.E.R.D will be performing at the grand finale concert in February 2011.

From Durban, the tour will move to Cape Town, East London, Free State and then Limpopo.

“Each week, fans from each province will experience music with [that] special ingredient — culminating in the final concert at the Standard Bank Arena on Saturday, February 12, 2011.”

Zuluboy, who hails from Cleremont, Durban, will be performing in front of his home crowd.

He said: “I love performing for crowds and I gain great pleasure in seeing people dance to my music. I think that the Hansa Pilsner brand has taken a bold move in supporting local artists and talent by connecting with their audience through the power of music and all of us as artists are behind the brand.”

Tsotsotso said tickets for the concerts are not for sale. Fans wanting tickets will need to get their hands on a Hansa beer and enter the competition using their unique code found on the underliner. Alternatively they can catch the competition on any of the six SABC radio stations, or they can just be spotted drinking a Hansa.
