Lekgwathi still eyeing PSL title

2013-04-24 00:00

JOHANNESBURG — Orlando Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi has not given up on winning the PSL title just yet, despite the ever-growing gap at the top of the table.

The Buccaneers are nine points adrift of league leaders Kaizer Chiefs and three points behind second-placed Platinum Stars, with a game in hand over both, according to the Football411 website,

The Bucs have been on continental duty in the CAF Champions League and have made it to the second round of the competition. They rekindled their earlier season form in the first leg of their second round tie against TP Mazembe with a 3-1 win over the Congolese side.

Lekgwathi now believes it is vital to focus on the league in an attempt to close the gap on the number one spot, starting with a win over Bidvest Wits on Saturday.

“Beating Mazembe feels good especially because not many people expected us to come out of that game alive, but we proved that we cannot be underestimated,” he told MTNFootball.

“Our focus now goes back to the league — we have to beat Wits and there is no point in us continuing celebrating our win against Mazembe when we have another tough match to play.

“The league title is something we want to win desperately and I’m actually glad that we go to Wits highly motivated.

“They will find it tough to play against us that is for sure — our supporters are again behind us and Mbombela is our second home. We go there determined to get full points and nothing else.”
