Leopard loves yogurt and perfume

2014-02-18 00:00

THE four-year-old Choetta is a real spoilt brat, with a taste for Ayrshire strawberry yogurt from Woolworths and expensive men’s perfume.

The leopard has appeared in SABC television productions locally and on Animal Planet.

Her trainer, Shandor Larenty (18), has raised Choetta since the leopard was only six weeks old. She slept on Larenty’s bed until she was six months old and then went to live on the Lion Park near Lanseria Airport. These days, she livesat the Rhenosterspruit Nature Reserve, about 12 kilometres from the Lion Park.

Shandor’s father, Alex Larenty, is the head trainer at the Lion Park.

Larenty discovered Choetta’s love for yogurt while he was eating it.

“One evening, when she was about nine weeks old, I was eating yogurt and she licked it off the spoon before I could put it in my mouth. She has been crazy about it from that day.”

But Choetta does not like just any old yogurt. Larenty said he has given her different flavours and brands, but she did not want any of it.

He said it is not unusual for Choetta to have a taste for yogurt. She and other predators at the Lion Park and Rhenosterspruit get to eat fruit once a week. Other times they eat meat.

Choetta gets her Woolies yogurt on special days, like her birthday and Christmas.

“Choetta is a real Sandton girl. She likes the finer things in life,” Larenty said.

Alex Larenty said Choetta had the same expensive taste as his son, because she also likes Paco Rabanne men’s perfume.

During sister paper Beeld’s visit, Larenty dabbed the perfume on his hand and Choetta could not get close enough to him.
