Life-saving: U16 DHS boys do well at SA Championships

2012-05-01 00:00

DURBAN High School may not have the best first XV rugby side this year as they continue to struggle against the top tier opposition.

Their U14 age group, however, looks good. They are unbeaten this year and provided they can keep these players intact and not let them get snapped up by other schools, they will be back where they belong in KZN rugby in a few years time.

Boys from the oldest high school in Durban are still achieving in other sporting spheres. Life-saving, essentially a sport only available to those in the coastal schools, is one.

The SA Life Saving Championships were recently held on the Toti Beach and in the U16 category three DHS pupils did well.

There were 24 clubs from the beaches of South Africa competing in a number of life-saving events.

Keegan Murugan won a gold in the craft rescue and a bronze in the Malibu Beach events. Cameron Coleman won two bronze medals for the surf swim and Taplin relay events and Rolf von der Meden won bronze in the board relay event.
