Limpopo girl is SA’s best

2013-01-04 00:00

POLOKWANE — The country’s top matriculant is a girl from a small town in Limpopo.

Ngoanapedi Mmadikgetho Komane (18), of Glen Cowie Girls’ High School in Jane Furse, was amazed yesterday to learn that she was not only top in her province, but in the whole coutry.

She achieved seven distinctions for a total of 1 730 points: English, Sepedi, life orientation, maths, physical science, life sciences and accounting.

Her marks in four subjects — life sciences, physical science, life orientation and maths — were the highest in Limpopo.

Maths was her favourite because “it teaches you to think logically”.

She said she had worked hard for her success, giving up time with family and friends to focus on her studies.

She will study actuarial science at Wits University and would like to work abroad for a while.

Komane comes from a family of achievers: her mother is a high school principal and her father works for Old Mutual.
