Limpopo: nomination chaos continues

2012-12-06 00:00

THE ANC’s Limpopo nomination conference in Polokwane once again descended into chaos last night.

E-TV reported that groups, singing songs in favour of President Jacob Zuma and Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe, forced their way through police and into the conference venue.

Stones and glass bottles were thrown at the police and inside the venue. Two people were arrested and the police fired a water cannon at the crowd.

Previous efforts to hold the conference also descended into chaos, and the ANC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) on Monday gave Limpopo special permission to hold its conference after the deadline for nominations ahead of the party’s Mangaung conference.

NEC members were trying to solve the dispute last night.

Last week, Zuma’s supporters claimed that their names didn’t appear on lists being prepared during branch general meetings.

Meanwhile, no incidents of violence were reported in the Western Cape, which also had permission to reconvene its nomination conference yesterday.
