Linden's ashes: Family's final farewell today

2011-12-31 00:00

THE ashes of South African drug mule Janice Linden will be laid in their final resting place in Wentworth today.

Linden was executed in China early this month after she was caught with three kilograms of methamphetamine on her arrival at Guangzhou’s airport in November 2008.

The family were finally able to make funeral arrangements after receiving her ashes this Wednesday following a three-week wait.

Struggling to hold back the tears, Nthando Mthalane, Linden’s nephew, said the family are glad they will get to bury her in dignity.

“It was only after seeing the ashes that it hit me that she is really gone and that is very hard,” said Mthalane.

Linden’s ashes will be buried in the grave of her mother, who died earlier in the year.

“I never got to see her or say goodbye and having the body would have allowed us to do that … A cremation is not the way the family would have chose to do things, but at least she can rest now,” he added.
