Lioness’s tall tales

2013-11-01 00:00

KIMBERLEY — The AWB woman who alleged that she was involved when right-wingers murdered the Steenkamp family, is known as The Lioness and has a very chequered past.

Several experts in the district said Cornelia de Wet needs psychiatric help and that she has a habit of making up stories to focus attention on herself, as she was now doing with her allegations of the Griekwastad murders.

Beeld writer Buks Viljoen reported from Mpumalanga that the police doubt her version of events as it had changed several times and she could not point out the scenes at Griekwastad.

Tobie van den Bergh, editor of the Middelburg Observer in Mpumalanga, said he felt sorry for De Wet.

Van den Bergh said De Wet may have projected her own fantasy life on the Griekwastad reports that she saw in the media.

Her claims range from being involved in eight murders and that she had become pregnant after a sex orgy with right-wingers.

Jaco Scherman of the Leeuwag organisation said De Wet’s modus operandi is to lay a charge at a police station and when the investigation finds new evidence, De Wet goes to the media to create sensation. “She has made many wild claims. The police know she talks hogwash … ”
