Lions Show, bigger and better this year

KNOWN as the South Coast’s premier platform for local and national trade, the annual Port Shepstone Lions Show promises bigger and better things than in past years.

The 25-year-old extravaganza is the largest event on the Hibiscus Coast calendar. It is also the biggest fundraiser for the Lions Club of Port Shepstone.

The Lions Club was officially chartered in 1970 and for the past 41 years has served the needy through many community service projects.

Funds raised from the

Lions Show are ploughed back into the local community.

The show runs from July 14 to 17.

As well as hundreds of trading stalls and exhibitors, visitors can expect an action-packed entertainment line-up featuring leading South African performers, said James Carlsen, head of marketing and entertainment.

The show will kick off with the Miss South Coast Crowning Ball on Wednesday night. This will be followed by the “Lions Laugh out Loud” comedy evening on Thursday with Kevin Perkins, alias “Michael Naicker”.

Singer Samantha Landers will provide dinner entertainment.

Jazzing things up on Friday will be headline act Goodluck and top SA DJ Paul Almeida.

“The main arena will be filled with fun and action on Saturday and Sunday,” said Carlsen.

“Carnage, the ever-popular monster truck, will be tearing up the turf. There will be remote control demonstrations by Denkits Hobbies.

“Criterion Yamaha, Fever X-treme Endurocross and polocrosse demos and Chef’s Theatre will keep the whole family riveted to their seats,” he added.

Kicking it Country performs musical theatre on Saturday evening with its eight-piece ensemble.

The Lions after-party will wrap things up with Durban cover band Salty Dog on centre stage.
