Lions: Tsolekile, Tahir unlikely

2012-12-13 00:00

CAPE TOWN — It looks unlikely that the Highveld Lions will pick returning Proteas Thami Tsolekile and Imran Tahir for the One-day Cup final against the Cape Cobras in Johannesburg tomorrow.

The duo, along with Alviro Peterson, are the only Proteas players back from the recent successful tour in Australia. The Cobras look likely to include up to four international stars.

But Lions coach Geoffrey Toyana says it’s unlikely that they’ll risk using either Tsolekile or Tahir. “Thami hasn’t played cricket for about two months, while Imran’s only match practice was in the second Test [in Adelaide] where he performed very poorly,” Toyana told Beeld.

“I haven’t decided on the composition of my starting team, but it will be very tough to find spots for them. If I pick Thami, Quinton [de Kock] would have to be dropped — while Aaron [Phangiso] would have to sit out, if Imran plays.”

Play at the Wanderers begins from 3 pm.
