Lions cruise to 10-wicket win

2015-03-16 00:00

THE bizhub Highveld Lions edged closer to a Sunfoil Series title by coasting to an emphatic 10-wicket win after a clinical run chase following a dramatic Chevrolet Knights batting collapse in their Sunfoil Series clash at Chevrolet Park in Bloemfontein yesterday.

The door seemed firmly bolted with the Knights on 218 for three and Rudi Second and Patrick Botha firmly entrenched at the crease.

The pair ensured a slender 25-run lead with a 85-run partnership in 90 minutes for the fourth wicket off 136 balls.

But once Hardus Viljoen had bowled Botha for 42, the hosts lost their final six wickets for 71 runs as Kagiso Rabada, Dwaine Pretorius, Chris Morris and Viljoen attacked relentlessly and the Knights imploded.

The win has strengthened the

Lions in their quest for the Sunfoil Series silverware. The table-topping Lions have 115,84 points. They are more than 17 points ahead of the second-placed Sunfoil Dolphins, who boast 98,26.
