Lions out of league after nail-biter

2013-09-30 00:00

THE Otago Volts beat the Highveld Lions after a Super Over in an exciting Champions League Twenty20 match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur yesterday.

The Lions had posted what had looked like a challenging 167 for four after a wonderful, unbeaten century from Quinton de Kock.

However, Otago reached 167 for seven in their 20 overs thanks to a superb 52 off just 25 balls from James Neesham.

Otago batted first in their Super Over and scored 13 runs with Brendon McCullum striking the last ball of the over for six.

De Kock and Jean Symes then batted for the Lions and De Kock struck a four and a six off the first two balls bowled by seamer Neesham.

Symes was dismissed off the fourth ball as the Lions reached the last ball still needing two to win.

De Kock and Dwaine Pretorius picked up a single off the last ball before Pretorius was run out as Otago clinched the tightest of wins.

The result means that the Lions are out of the competition after failing to win any of their four matches while Otago move to the top of Group A with one match left to play.
