A PARTNERSHIP between a German football club and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife could see three young rural soccer players signed up to play in Germany.

This initiative is one of the biggest incentives driving players in the Ezemvelo Cup which will be wrapping up early next month.

Three players will be sent to Osnabruck FC in Germany for two weeks training and if the club sees talent in any of them, they might sign them up.

The knockout series has seen 64 teams from the traditional authorities surrounding the parks which Ezemvelo manages go head-to-head in possibly one of the country’s largest rural leagues.

The final will be played by kwaDlamini Klipspringer and Mthembu Rhinos. Both teams thumped their opponents in the semi-finals held in Richards Bay last weekend. Two players were shortlisted at the semi-finals as possibilities for the German trip.

Spokesperson Musa Mntambo said the third division German club has committed to train the youngsters.

“… This is a great opportunity for any young footballer. This tournament, which also includes netball, has in a short time established itself as a competition that has the ability to unearth our province’s hidden talent,” said Mntambo.

Ezemvelo CEO Dr Bandile Mkhize congratulated all the players who had taken part in the tournament and hoped they would all return next year.

The finals will be played on December 8 at the University of Zululand sports fields, followed by a gala dinner and prize giving in Richards Bay.
