Local launches youth consultancy

A young local entrepreneur has launched a new consultancy that focuses on youth development while also ensuring that this socially-oriented venture remains profitable.

The new Pietermaritzburg-based business, headed by Mthobisi Mkhize, is known as Umvithi Youth Development Consultants.

He has four other key “partners” in the business, namely Sbukeli Zuma (deputy CEO), Thandeka Biyela (auditor), Bongiwe Dlamini (executive secretary) and Ntombifuthi Ngcobo (additional executive member).

The emerging consultancy is aimed at exposing young people to positive career, educational, entrepreneurial and recreational opportunities.

Mkhize told The Witness that Umvithi works primarily with the uMgungundlovu District Municipality and local municipalities within the district.

The consultancy’s main programme is known as “Baste”, which encompasses five key areas of interest, including beauty and fashion; art, film and theatre; sport; tourism and education and skills.

Mkhize said they have also partnered with small business development professionals in order to provide enterprising young people with accessible advisory services.

“We are now a municipal service provider for youth development. I saw an opportunity to develop young people, especially in rural areas. Each municipality has a budget for youth and social development. … we are now focused on five initiatives at the moment.”
