Local musicians kick-start 2012

2012-01-13 00:00

IF you’re already starting to despair at your lack of resolve regarding any new year resolutions you may have made, the Maritzburg Musicians’ Club is here to help — support local music.

The club hosts an excellent line-up on January 17. The Hinds Brothers, who are based in Durban, will be taking the stage at The Red Door.

Also secured for the evening is Ryan Calder. Fresh from his trip to Barcelona for the Future Music Forum, Calder will be sharing his songwriting skills with MMC audiences.

Although the Hinds brothers have been inspired and influenced by many artists, from their father Kevin (EMI recording artist in the seventies) to the late Syd Kitchen, the brothers have still evolved a style uniquely and undeniably their own.

Acoustically driven, the group’s songwriting is insightful, lyrical and melodic, while the brothers’ voices blend into an unmistakable harmony.

These qualities, perfectly complemented by voices of great originality and beauty, make performances by these young musicians an intimate, dynamic and unforgettable experience.

Imbued with such talent, both as vocalists and writers of songs, Hinds Brothers is destined to leave its indelible mark on the musical landscape.

Hind Brothers recently signed a publishing deal with Sony and is currently recording its debut full-length album.

The evening takes place at The Red Door in Quarry Road from 8 pm. Entrance is R30.
