Local playwright wins Pansa award

SUNDAY's finals of the NLTDF/Pansa Festival of Contemporary Theatre Readings of New Writings saw joint winners - KwaZulu-Natal's Kobus Moolman and the Western Cape's Paul Ian Johnson. Each received prize money of R22 500.

The two plays are Moolman's two-hander Stone Angel, for which Clare Mortimer also won the best director award of R10 000 and Johnson's False Witness.

Speaking to The Witness yesterday, Moolman said he was delighted that his play now has a chance to be seen properly on stage. He and Mortimer are thinking of entering it in the Musho Festival of one- and two-handers in Durban in January and then taking it on to the National Arts Festival.

If possible, he would also like to see a longer Durban run next year. The two performers are Durban-based Josette Eales and Janna Ramos-Violante.

Moolman is a previous winner of the Pansa award, with his play Full Circle in 2004.
