Local rugby player signed for Currie Cup by Border Bulldogs

2012-01-06 00:00

CURRIE Cup team the Border Bulldogs has signed Maritzburg Collegians loosehead prop and captain, Blake Kyd.

Collegians chairman Tony Day told The Witness yesterday that it was just reward for a player who has earned recognition the hard way.

“Blake’s exemplary work ethic, dedication and consistently high standard of play have paid off and the Bulldogs contract proves that some boys mature later than others.”

Kyd came out of the Maritzburg College thirds and fourths undaunted by his modest success and joined the Midlands Rugby Academy at Woodburn, where he spent a number of productive years.

A natural leader, Kyd (24) made his Collegians first XV debut five years ago and has captained the Natal Wildebeest provincial team for the last three years.

Collegians have started their KZN Premier League preparations. They won the KZN First Division title last year, earning return to the top league for the first time in two decades.
