London game ‘very likely’

THE Sharks and the Crusaders are “very likely” to pop over from New Zealand to play their Super Rugby game in London on the last Sunday of this month.

Sharks CEO Brian van Zyl, caught during a stop-over for carbo-load during the Argus Cycle Tour in Cape Town yesterday, told The Witness that the switch of venues from Nelson in New Zealand to Twickenham in London “was looking good”.

The English Rugby Football Union had turned down a request for the game to be played on March 25 because of a clash of fixtures with the Harlequins-Gloucester game set down for the neighbouring Stoop on the same day.

But the latest plan is to play the game on the Sunday with both teams making the 24-hour flight from New Zealand after this weekend’s games.

This would enable the Sharks toget back to South Africa sooner by flying out of London on the Sunday night to be back in Durban on the Monday to prepare for the Stormers’ game on the Saturday.
