Longer wait for sex case teacher

2014-10-30 00:00

THE Durban drama teacher accused of paying his students for sexual favours will spend another five weeks in jail — while police cyber-sleuths wade through reams of evidence.

The beleaguered teacher, who cannot be named until he pleads in the case, appeared briefly in the Durban Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Reams of damning pornographic images of teenage boys were found on several of the teacher’s laptops, which were seized along with his cellphone during a raid on his home.

It is understood that the illicit images form the basis of charges levelled against him.

It was this evidence that has now forced an adjournment until December, with a report from the police’s elite cyber-crime unit not yet completed.

Laptops, cellphones and memory cards have been sent for analysis and indexing.

His attorney, Nerissa Farrington, asked that this be marked as the final adjournment for further investigation, but the magistrate said the delay was not unreasonable considering the amount of evidence and the charges.
