Lost since 1987: ‘If only I could bury my son’

2011-03-15 00:00

THE Madondo family of the Mpumuza area of Pietermaritzburg are searching for Nhlanhla Cyprian Madondo, who was last seen alive in 1987 at the age of 26.

His mother, Busisiwe Mavis Madondo (66), said the family has not stopped searching for him.

“We believe that he might have been killed during political violence in Edendale. I don’t have details of how he disappeared, except that he left home and never returned,” said Madondo.

She believes he was an active member of the United Democratic Front.

She is appealing to anyone who might know what happened to her son to come forward. He was known as Mshokobezi among his friends.

“There were many young people who went missing during the late 80s, but I know of other families who found the bodies of their loved ones and buried them. If only I can find my son’s bones, I would be happy to bury them,” she said.
