Lotus FM’S Kalysha Naidoo in final four for presenter search

2010-11-30 00:00

LOTUS FM presenter Kalysha Naidoo (28) will find out on Thursday night if she’s won a spot in the final of the Top Billing presenter search.

The popular SABC3 entertainment and lifestyle show has been scouring the country for a new presenter, and viewers will know that Naidoo, who lives in Tongaat, is one of the four finalists.

Asked what had prompted her to take part, she said: “I’ve always wanted to do this. Since I was a little girl one of my biggest dreams has been to be a television presenter.”

Naidoo, who graduated from the University of KwaZulu-Natal with a degree in drama and media, says the experience has been invaluable, but admits television presenting is not as easy as it looks.

“I’ve learned that you need to be relaxed … if you plan too much the camera picks it up.”

She said that being on radio doesn’t give her an edge over her competitors.

“Being on radio has given me confidence, but the mediums are very different. On radio you speak into a microphone and you don’t have to watch your facial expressions.”

As for how she’ll cope if she’s eliminated on Thursday night, Naidoo says: “I’ve braced myself for every elimination … I tried my best and whatever happens I will accept it. Let the chips fall where they may.”

• In Thursday night’s episode, Naidoo and the other remaining contestants — Kaone Kario, Kenneth Fok and Simbarashe Mhere — face a series of water challenges. Watch Top Billing at 7.30 pm.
