Lovely views, far from CBD

2009-08-17 00:00

Name, age and occupation:

Graham Hannah, electrician, 61 years’ old.

Where do you live?

In a house in Roberts Road, in the suburb of Clarendon.

How long have you lived there?

Eighteen years.

What do you like about your neighbourhood?

It’s peaceful. The gardens are beautiful and it has good views. There are lovely walks around the neighbourhood and into the forest up towards World’s View. I also like the fact that the neighbourhood and my garden is visited by vervet monkeys. I like to remind people that they were here before we were and they deserve some respect.

What are its most interesting features?

The undulating terrain.

What rallies people in the area?

The Capital Climb once a year, which goes up Roberts Road, always gets people out on the street.

What are the not-so-good things about living here?

The early morning traffic, which causes congestion and delays. It’s because there are five schools in the area: Clarendon Primary, Voortrekker High, Wykeham Collegiate, Jacaranda Pre-primary and Sunny-Lea Pre-primary — all within one or two kilometres of each other.

Where do children play in your area and what do they do?

My children have grown up playing on the land behind Clarendon School. They usually ride their bikes there, and now their motorbikes.

What should a visitor not miss out on?

The views, which you can take in by driving or walking around the area.

What are the good things about living here?

It’s very close to the CBD, but it seems to be far from the hustle and bustle of town.
