Lover’s killer jailed for 12 years

A MAN has been sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment for the “despicable” and “vicious” murder of his lover at Underberg earlier this year after he discovered she’d had an affair.

Imposing the sentence on Friday, Acting High Court Judge Aslam Motala told Siphamandla Dlamini that his action in stabbing and killing Thuthukile Magubane at Dunn-Raven farm on February 4, was “truly despicable”, as he could easily have left her instead of murdering her.

Mitigating factors were that Dlamini did not plan the murder; that he confessed to his family and police; and the fact that the crime might not have been solved at all had it not been for Dlamini’s own actions in giving himself up.

Dlamini pleaded guilty last week and said he was driven by guilt to reveal what he had done to his family. He was thereafter arrested at home by the police.

He also said he paid damages of R1 600 to the victim’s family and paid for her funeral.

Dlamini said he and Magubane had been planning to marry. However, in January he noticed that she became “secretive” about her whereabouts.

When he confronted her on February 4, she admitted to having an affair. During an argument she slapped him on the face and they “grappled” with each other.

Dlamini said in a “fit of rage” he grabbed a knife from a nearby table and stabbed Magubane once in the back and in the neck, before running off.
