MDC: Zimbabwe petition

2011-08-18 00:00

MEMBERS of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) in KwaZulu-Natal held a picket outside the Durban City Hall yesterday to protest about the lack of progress in Zimbabwe’s democratisation.

A petition was sent to the summit of Southern African Development Community (SADC) heads of state, who are meeting for two days in Luanda, to raise their concerns.

Zimbabwean exiles living in KZN said “there is a real danger of Zimbabwe bleeding to death”, and the political crisis requires “urgent corrective action by the SADC”, which should not be a “paper tiger” but become more proactive in mediating the Zimbabwean situation. This would include pushing for the implementation of global political agreements on democracy and human rights reforms.
