MEC mourns dept worker’s death

2013-11-01 00:00

THE MEC for Social Development Weziwe Thusi has expressed deep sadness following the death of a social worker on the South Coast.

Londekile Mbutho (25) was swept away by raging waters while trying to cross a bridge on her way home at the weekend.

Mbutho was a beneficiary of the Department’s bursary scheme and had served in the Vulamehlo Service office since 2011.

Thusi said: “Any loss of life is tragic, but it becomes worse when it hits so close to home. Londekile was a young social worker who dedicated her life to improving the lives of others and we are deeply saddened by her passing. It has been a dark week in our department; we’ve lost two employees within days.”

The MEC said their thoughts and prayers were with their families and the many families who have lost loved ones this week.
