EDUCATION MEC Senzo Mchunu has expressed shock at the brutal killing of yet another child in Umkhanyakude District in north-eastern KZN.

The department said a 14-year-old Grade 8 pupil at Lifalethu High School disappeared last Tuesday and her body was found in the bush on Monday.

She had been hacked in the neck with an axe.

The department said the incident took place about five kilometres from the scene of an earlier murder.

In that incident, a 15-year-old pupil from Zwilenkosi Junior Secondary School was raped and murdered and her body dumped in a forest.

“These incidents have shaken us to the core.

“We are deeply saddened by these atrocious incidents. Our thoughts go out to the bereaved families,” Mchunu said.

A suspect was in police custody in connection with the first murder, Mchunu added.
