MMC hosts Erin Fourie and Nosihe Zulu

2012-02-10 00:00

ON Valentine’s Day, the Maritzburg Musicians’ Club (MMC) will host a heart-warming evening of lost-in-the-moment beautiful music from two of Maritzburg’s most talented artists: Nosihe Zulu and Erin Fourie.

Dubbed the MMC’s “little treasure with a great big talent”, Zulu will be performing some personal material, which has not yet been performed in public. She calls it: “Contemporary, smooth, fusion sounds, mixing the Zulu and English language and different styles”. She’ll be performing with local musos from around the city.

“I’ll be playing with a few friends ... so if I could describe what the vibe is, I would say it’s more like ‘The view from my window’. I’ll mix it with some contemporary songs I enjoy, and my own stuff.”

After her heroics on Idols last year, Fourie has become an even more well-known face on the Maritzburg music circuit since she began doing the rounds in 2003.

Currently, she is getting back to her roots with acoustic folk vibes on the Maritzburg scene, and has been likened to Joan Baez, Tracy Chapman and Joni Mitchell.

She’ll be performing with Charl Landsberg — a multi-talented, multifaceted musician with several music projects already under his belt.

An avid songwriter, pianist, bassist, singer and guitarist, he intermingles his off-beat sense of humour with phenomenal skill.

The evening takes place at the Red Door at 8 pm, and the entrance fee is R30.
