Main suspect in custody

2013-10-19 00:00

THE main suspect in the Diepsloot child murders will spend the weekend in jail and appear in court on Monday.

Gauteng police arrested the 29-year-old man in Alexandra in the early hours of yesterday morning after releasing an identikit of the man.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Neville Malila said local people called police when they recognised the man.

He was caught off-guard when police arrived, but did not resist arrest or try to flee.

He was the fifth man arrested in connection with the abduction, rape and murder of cousins Yonilisa (2) and Zandile Mali (3).

The other four, who were arrested on Wednesday after handing themselves in, appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Malila said the investigation team have a lot of work ahead of them. They will attempt to determine if the main suspect is linked to any other cases.
