Malema all out of allies’ support

2012-12-18 00:00

EXPELLED ANC youth League (ANCYL) president Julius Malema has failed to get support so far from his allies to help him overturn his expulsion from the party.

While any delegate can raise the issue from the floor, The Witness has learnt that not a single province, not even Limpopoor the youth league, has raised the issue of his expulsion.

This was confirmed by ANC spokesperson Keith Khoza. “Maybe they are biding their time, although it is getting late,” he said.

A youth league delegate at the conference said that they had not raised the matter because they had sensed it would get a hostile reception at the conference.

According to reports, Malema has made a last-ditch effort to have his expulsion overturned.

Malema and suspended youth league spokesperson Floyd Shivambu and secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa have appealed to the ANC’s steering committee and party secretary-general Gwede Mantashe to allow the national conference to reverse their penalties.

In the letter to the ANC, the trio said they remained “loyal supporters and members of the ANC” willing to be corrected and guideded by its principles.

They made a point of saying that thus far they had avoided going to court “because we believe that the national conference and the ANC should be given an opportunity to once again look at the issue of disciplinary process that culminated in the current situation”.
