Mall waitress lays charge against locked-up man

2014-05-19 00:00

THE woman at the heart of a row that led to local resident Rasheed Ebrahim being locked in a cell at Liberty Midlands Mall on May 11, has laid a charge of crimen injuria against him with the police.

This was confirmed by Ebrahim’s attorney, Kogulan Chetty, who said he was informed about the charge on Friday morning.

His firm is nonetheless in the process of issuing a letter of demand for damages against Nando’s, where the incident happened, and Fidelity Guards, who are in charge of security at the mall.

“I have no doubt that the charge against my client, which was only laid now, is contrived,” he added.

Ebrahim maintains that he was unlawfully detained in a cell at the mall for about three hours after a waitress at Nando’s allegedly told her management that he insulted her by calling her the “K” word.

Ebrahim, who was accompanied by his black girlfriend, Noxi Bana, at the time, denies he used the word and said he only told the waitress she was “rude”.

He was released without being charged.
