Man brutally assaulted and robbed of cash and vehicle in Eston

A 25-YEAR-OLD man, Trevor du Bois, is recovering in hospital after he was brutally assaulted by two men, and robbed of his cash and his Opel Corsa bakkie on Sunday night in the Eston area.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Joey Jeevan said Du Bois had stopped to repair a flat tyre when he was attacked.

“He was approached by two men who were well spoken, who offered their assistance and helped him repair the tyre,” said Jeevan.

But then the men assaulted and dragged Du Bois to a nearby sugarcane field and fled with his wallet and cellphone.

“Then few minutes later the men returned and forced him to divulge the pin code for his bank card and assaulted him again until he lost consciousness and the suspects drove away in his car,” Jeevan said.

An hour later when Du Bois regained consciousness, he crawled to the road where he flagged down a passing motorist who contacted the police and emergency services.

During the early hours of Monday morning police were contacted by the ambulance services and told Du Bois’s vehicle had been involved in a collision on the Umbumbulu road near Mid-Illovo.

“The police arrested both the suspects who had sustained minor injuries. The suspects are aged 22 and 23 and will appear in the Camperdown Magistrate’s Court shortly,” the police statement said.

Du Bois was said to be in a serious but stable condition at Midlands Medical Centre hospital and was unable to speak to The Witness. — WR.
