Man, child saved from flat fire

A MAN believed to be in his seventies and a seven-year-old child were brought to safety after a fire broke out in an apartment building in Tongaat yesterday.

Emergency services responded to the fire on Arbee Drive.

Netcare 911 paramedics, eThekwini Fire and Rescue and other services rushed to the scene where they found that a fire had broken out in an apartment building.

“Members of the public rushed to assist the injured and to get people out of the building,” said spokesperson for Netcare Santi Steinmann, adding a man they believe to be in his seventies and a seven-year-old child were found in a serious condition and were transported to hospital after receiving treatment at the scene.

Investigations into the cause of the fire and events preceeding are underway.
