Man drowns in lake

THE body of a man who drowned in Lake Merthley outside Greytown on Tuesday, was recovered by members of the Pietermaritzburg Search and Rescue Unit yesterday.

Police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said the man was identified as Siyabonga Mzimela (28).

“Investigations established that Mzimela and a group of friends went swimming when Mzimela got into difficulties and drowned,” Zwane said.

When The Witness contacted Mzimela’s mother, she said she was very confused and was unable to speak.

An inquest docket has been registered and the circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.

A postmortem will be done to determine the exact cause of death. — WR.
