Man escapes plunge over cliff unhurt

2013-10-01 00:00

A PIETERMARITZBURG man had a lucky escape after he rolled his car in the Northdale area yesterday afternoon.

The man, said to be in his twenties, was allegedly trying to avoid a collision with another car when he swerved and rolled his car down a embankment at least 10 metres high.

According to witnesses, the man was driving on Bombay Road to join Chota Motala (Old Greytown) Drive. As he joined the road at the intersection, he had to swerve quickly to avoid a collision with a car speeding down Chota Motala.

Witnesses at the scene said after he rolled his car, a white Golf, he managed to extract himself from the car and walk to the top of the embankment, where he was offered medical help.

“There was another car that was speeding down Chota Motala, and he had to swerve out of the way and his car rolled down; he was very fortunate that his car did not roll down to the ditch, [at the bottom of the embankment] or this would have been serious,” said a witness.
