Man held for spate of stolen vehicles

A MAN who has allegedly been linked to countless charges of hijacking and car thefts has been nabbed after a police operation lasting three months.

Police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said members of the Kokstad Vehicle Identification Section (VIS) and the Kokstad K9 Unit impounded a number of vehicles during the course of their investigations.

He said on November 6 last year, Bonginkosi Ndlovu (34) of Umlazi was arrested when he was allegedly found in possession of a white Toyota Avanza that had been hijacked in Umlazi.

Ndlovu has since been linked to other vehicle theft cases.

“A white Toyota Hilux bakkie that had been stolen in Durban was recovered on January 22 in Kokstad. A white Nissan bakkie which was also stolen in Durban was recovered in Cedarville on January 29,” Zwane said.

On Thursday last week, police recovered two Kia LDVs, one of which had been hijacked in Umlazi and the other stolen in central Durban.

Zwane said prior to the arrest, Ndlovu was also wanted by detectives in Amanzimtoti and Durban Central on three warrants for his arrest.

“All the vehicles that had been impounded had been recovered from people that Ndlovu had allegedly sold them to,” he added.

He appeared in the Kokstad Magistrate’s Court last week and has been remanded in custody until Monday next week.

Commander of the Kokstad VIS, Captain Adam Draai, appealed to people to contact him at 039 727 8000 or 072 297 1554 if they have any information about the crimes.
