Man in ICU after ‘road rage shooting’

2014-11-04 00:00

A RAISETHORPE man was fighting for his life in intensive care late yesterday after being shot in central Pietermaritzburg.

Kevlin Naidoo was shot in the stomach in what is suspected to have been a “road rage” incident on Sunday night.

The shooting occured on the corner of Jabu Ndlovu (Loop Street) and Retief Street.

The Witness managed to piece together the events of the night from several sources.

The 27-year-old Naidoo had reportedly been driving his silver Mazda 3 behind a municipal refuse truck when he allegedly overtook the truck and crossed into the path of another vehicle heading towards him.

They managed to pass each other, but the other vehicle allegedly turned around, overtook him and stopped in front of his car.

An argument ensued.

The Witness was told that a group of women in the other car who were allegedly being transported to or from a church, were also angry and were screaming at Naidoo. While the heated exchange was going on the driver of the red Toyota Auris car transporting the women allegedly removed his gun from his vehicle, shot Naidoo and drove off.

Naidoo was rushed to Grey’s Hospital where he underwent surgery. By late yesterday he was reportedly still in a critical condition.

Attempts to contact members of his family yesterday were unsuccessful.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said a case of attempted murder was opened, but no arrests had been made and an investigation is underway.
