Man in court after being found with stolen goods

2015-01-13 00:00

A 23-YEAR-OLD man appeared at the Bergville Magistrate’s Court yesterday on charges of possession of stolen property.

The man, a foreign national, was found with a large amount of cash, along with fake registration plates and a truckload of stolen office furniture.

Police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said on Friday a truck was hijacked at Merrivale while travelling along the N3 freeway. Naicker said suspects threatened the driver with a firearm and then bundled him into the cabin of the truck.

“The men drove the truck loaded with office furniture to another destination where they dropped off the cargo before releasing the driver at the Colenso off-ramp,” said Naicker.

On January 10, the Ladysmith Cluster Trio Crime Task Team traced the stolen property to the Ematsheni area, following an around-the-clock investigation.

Police swooped on a shop near the Royal National Park where they recovered the load of furniture and arrested the man. — Witness Reporter.
