Man kicked girlfriend to death

A NEW Hanover man who admitted he had kicked his girlfriend to death in a rage at a bar on March 10 this year, was jailed for 12 years by high court Judge Isaac Madondo here yesterday.

The incident took place in front of the couple’s four-year-old daughter.

The judge took into account in mitigation that the killer, Sanele Johnson Dunn (24) had immediately reported the incident to his family and asked them to call the police following the murder.

In addition the court accepted that alcohol had played a role in the incident and that Dunn had shown remorse by pleading guilty.

An aggravating factor was the deadly force used by Dunn, which caused the victim to sustain multiple fractures and a ruptured


In his statement to the court Dunn said he had been drinking beer with a friend on the day in question when he saw his girlfriend, Bongekile Ndlovu (27), consuming alcohol at the Fawnleas Bar.

Ndlovu was accompanied by their daughter, and it annoyed him that she had taken the child with her to the bar.

He approached her to remonstrate with her and Ndlovu responded by swearing at him.

Dunn said he became angry and slapped her twice in the face.

Ndlovu thereafter broke a bottle of beer and tried unsuccessfully to stab him with the broken


“Incensed by the deceased’s behaviour I kicked her on her chest and she fell to the ground.

“Still infuriated and enraged at that stage, I continued kicking the deceased on her chest and abdomen while she lay on the ground.

“I stopped kicking … when I realised that she wasn’t moving.”
