2014-03-12 00:00

A TRUCK carrying bricks spilled its load on the N3 south-bound lane at Town Hill yesterday, resulting in a secondary accident in which a man (50) was killed and a woman (35) seriously injured.

The accidents led to traffic chaos during the morning rush. Sibangani Jimmy Zuma died in hospital, said his cousin Nhlanhla Mthalane.

ER24 spokesperson Luyanda Majija said the pair were in a car that collided with a recovery tow truck at the first accident scene.

According to Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu, the truck spilled bricks onto the road and the second collision occurred when the car crashed into the stationary tow truck that was assisting with the recovery of bricks that had fallen off the 18-wheeler truck.

She added that they used a stop-and-go system while trying to clear the road.
