Man robbed of R300k at Pavilion

2014-09-11 00:00

A MAN was held at gunpoint and robbed of R300 000 in cash in a daylight robbery at the Pavilion shopping centre yesterday.

It is understood that a man had been going towards the banking hall in the popular shopping complex when he was accosted by two men, one of whom was brandishing a gun, who demanded he hand over a bag containing R300 000 in cash. The robbers fled with the haul and are now being sought by police.

A police source close to the investigation said that CCTV footage captured by the centre’s network of cameras was being viewed by detectives and may prove vital in identifying the two men and also tracking their direction of escape.

Police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said that police were investigating the robbery and that no arrests had been made.

He added that no shots had been fired and no one was injured in the incident.

Pavilion spokesperson Andile Rapiya could not be contacted.
