Mandolin magic

2010-09-21 00:00

THE magical mandolin maestro U. Shrinivas will be joining the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra for a special concert in the Durban City Hall tomorrow as part of the Shared History — The Indian Experience festival.

Shrinivas, who plays Carnatic music, the South Indian form of Indian classical music on an electric mandolin, has been enthralling people the world over with his creative music since the age of six.

Tomorrow night’s concert will see the maestro and his brother U. Rajesh perform Samukhana Nilva, a composition by the famous South Indian composer Saint Tyagaraja and Sunrise, a lively celebration of life at the break of dawn — both the songs express the composer’s devotion towards the Hindu God Lord Rama.

Tickets for the concert are available at Computicket.
