Manhunt: another teacher murdered

2010-11-25 00:00

THE brutal killing of yet another teacher in the Msinga area over the weekend has KZN MEC for Education, Senzo Mchunu very concerned.

Somashi High School teacher, Bhekizenzo Ndiyane (35) was gunned down outside his cottage, which is within the school premises, on Sunday evening.

It is believed that a gunman walked up to the deceased and without saying a word fired at him, hitting him in the chest.

The incident comes just weeks after Thokozani Ndlovu (54), the principal of a different school in Msinga, was stoned to death in Muden.

Ndlovu’s body was dumped in an open field in Tshekani in Muden, with his shoes and cellphone stolen. The car he was driving was also stolen. His attackers have since been arrested.

A week before this incident, another teacher was shot outside her school in Nongoma.

In a statement yesterday, Mchunu said the incident was of grave concern since the cases are seemingly no longer isolated.

“In a space of three weeks there have been three incidents where educators’ lives were put at risk by faceless thugs.

“We want to reiterate that culprits are always known to communities where they operate. We therefore call on communities to come forward and expose these people so that they can be removed from society,” said Mchunu.

He further called on police to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that those responsible for such brutalities are brought to book and face the full might of the law.
