Manhunt: high hopes for PMB businessman

PIETERMARITZBURG businessman Michael Graham has high hopes of taking home the big prize in SABC3’s reality show Bar One Manhunt.

He is one of the top five finalists on the show.

Graham (27) was selected earlier this year with 25 other competitors to be part of the show and compete for more than R1 million in prizes.

He heard about it on the radio a couple of times and thought that would be a “pretty” adventure.

Part of the reason he entered, he said, was to prove to himself that he can face any challenge thrown in his path.

“I believe I am an analytical individual and approach each task in my life with thought and purpose.”

Auditions were held in Gateway, and Graham, owner of Thistle Bar Service, impressed the judges when he gave his explanation of what the ideal Bar One man is.

“I answered truthfully that I am a modern-day man, I am rough, tough, emotional, caring … and I moisturise,” he joked.

For Graham, this is not just another competition. The show has given him a chance to discover things about himself. He has learnt to communicate.

“I have also grown as an individual as it has given me the courage to face some of my most innate fears in life and approach each task in life with an open mind,” he said.

Graham said he was lucky to receive support from his family and girlfriend, Jenna Jones.

“I always receive little quirky good luck presents from my girlfriend for when I leave for our destination. I also get many motivational quotes from home.”

Although the show often keeps him away from his family, he said he was loving every minute of it,except when he is on the elimination block, which has happened a few times.

Graham feels that he has a good chance of winning the show, despite the “great” competition.

He told The Witness: “I just think I have played the game for the right reasons and the right motivation driving me forward.”

He hopes some positive exposure will come from the show.
